Zambian Minister of Transport Inaugurates Road Safety Management Training in Lusaka
The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon. Frank Tayali, has officially inaugurated the Road Safety Management Training Programme at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Lusaka.
The programme aims to preserve lives by preventing or reducing road traffic crashes across the African continent.
This significant initiative has gathered various stakeholders in the transport sector from different African countries, including Malawi, Zambia, and Rwanda.
The training programme is designed to address the critical need for enhanced road safety management and to combat the increasing number of road traffic incidents.
Key objectives of the programme include raising awareness about road safety challenges, developing leadership capabilities in road safety planning, management, and advocacy, and creating a network of practitioners to share best practices.
By focusing on these areas, the programme seeks to implement long-lasting road safety interventions that will significantly reduce fatalities and injuries on public roads.
Minister Tayali emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This programme underscores the critical importance of enhancing road safety management capacity across the African continent. It marks a significant step towards addressing the pressing road safety crisis in the region.”
The training will equip 30 road safety stakeholders with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage road safety effectively within their respective countries.
Participants will engage in holistic interventions that consider the interaction between road users, vehicles, speeds, roads, and post-crash responses to mitigate the risk of severe crashes and injuries.
This collaborative effort is expected to foster a safer road environment by empowering leaders and practitioners with advanced road safety strategies and management skills.
The Road Safety Management Training Programme signifies a proactive approach to creating safer roads and saving lives across Africa.
