Twelve Undocumented Ethiopians Apprehended by Immigration and Police in Chinsali
In a joint operation conducted by Immigration and Police authorities in Chinsali, a dozen undocumented Ethiopian nationals, ranging in age from 14 to 26, have been apprehended.
Their arrest stems from their failure to comply with immigration regulations, specifically the requirement to report to the nearest Immigration Officer upon entry into the country.
According to Namati Nshinka, the Public Relations Officer for the Immigration Department, the individuals were intercepted on May 28, 2024, at approximately 11:40 hours, as they roamed the wilderness of Mutambe Akasuba Area in Shiwang’andu District.
Their presence was brought to the attention of the Chinsali Immigration Office by vigilant members of the public.
Further investigations unveiled an abandoned Mitsubishi Pajero Vehicle, bearing registration number BAG 4282, in the vicinity.
Initial inquiries suggest that the Ethiopians may have been transported from Nakonde in the aforementioned vehicle by unidentified individuals, with the intention of reaching Lusaka, before being deserted in the bush.
Authorities suspect the potential involvement of additional individuals beyond the driver of the Pajero, and efforts to locate them are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the detained Ethiopians have been transferred to Chinsali pending legal proceedings.
