Minister Felix Mutati Speaks at Ground-Breaking Ceremony for Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway
The Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati MP, spoke at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway.
This project is the first major Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Zambia and is expected to bring many benefits.
Technology minister said that the 20% of the $650 million USD contract with AVIC will go to Zambian subcontractors. This means local companies will work on the project alongside AVIC.
The Minister urged Zambian subcontractors to be dedicated and hardworking, emphasizing the need for high-quality work.
He hopes this will help local companies gain experience to handle such projects independently in the future.
To ensure that Zambian youths get the necessary skills for the job, the Minister asked AVIC to work closely with the Ministry of Technology and Science.
Minister Mutati said that the project will create business opportunities for people in Chibombo and Katuba, helping traders along the road access markets in Lusaka and beyond.
This is Zambia’s first major PPP project, and the Minister Mutati acknowledged President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership in making it happen.
The project emphasizes Zambia’s position as a land-linked country, which will boost economic growth and investments beyond Katuba and Chibombo.
The dual carriageway is expected to decongest traffic, reduce vehicle wear and tear, lower fuel consumption, and improve road safety.
