Zambia’s President Hichilema Vows Continued Fight Against Corruption

President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia launched the National Policy on Anti-Corruption at the Mulungushi Conference Centre in Lusaka. The policy aims to strengthen the fight against corruption in the country.

President Hichilema emphasized his government’s commitment to tackling corruption, highlighting past actions like establishing fast-track courts and implementing asset recovery laws.

He urged the judiciary to consider harsher sentences for corruption offenses, contrasting light sentences for large-scale embezzlement with harsher punishments for petty theft.

The president addressed concerns about a perceived slowdown in the anti-corruption fight, assuring citizens that efforts are ongoing to address past, present, and future corruption.

He warned those implicated in corruption cases not to claim victimhood or political persecution, as their actions were personal.

He expressed confidence that the new policy will yield significant results. He called for national unity in fighting corruption, regardless of the individuals involved.

President Hichilema warned against tactics used by the corrupt, such as portraying themselves as victims and using stolen funds to gain sympathy.

The president concluded by emphasizing the importance of ethical businesses and leaving resources with their rightful owners.

He closed his message with a call for divine blessings and support for legitimate businesses in Zambia.
