Ministry of Technology and Science Partners with ZNS to Construct Exhibition Venue for World Skills Africa Competition
As preparations for the inaugural World Skills Africa Competition in Livingstone ramp up, the Ministry of Technology and Science has enlisted the expertise of the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to build a state-of-the-art exhibition venue.
Scheduled to take place at the Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES) in April 2025, this competition marks Africa’s first hosting of the prestigious event.
Hon. Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science, has set a tight deadline of six months for ZNS to complete the construction of the exhibition venue.
Recognizing ZNS’s track record of excellence in similar projects, Hon. Mutati expressed confidence in their ability to deliver within the stipulated timeframe.
“The urgency of this project cannot be overstated, and we are committed to ensuring that the exhibition venue is ready well in advance,” stated Hon. Mutati.
Groundbreaking for the venue is scheduled for June 1st, 2024, with completion slated for December 2024, four months ahead of the competition.
Maj. Gen. Reuben Mwewa, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of ZNS, assured the Ministry of their readiness to commence work promptly.
“We are fully prepared to undertake this task and will mobilize as soon as we receive the green light,” Maj. Gen. Mwewa affirmed.
The Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) has also offered its expertise to the project, with Eng. David Kamungu, Registrar and CEO of EIZ, pledging technical support throughout the construction phase.
In addition, Cleophas Takaiza, Director General of the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA), announced that Zambia has identified 20 skills to be showcased and competed for at the World Skills Africa Competition.
This event presents a unique opportunity for Zambian participants to learn and compete alongside their international counterparts.
