Zambia Launches Online Portal for Transparency in Extractive Industries
The Zambia Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (ZEITI) has announced the launch of the Zambia EITI Online Fusion portal to enhance transparency and accountability in Zambia’s extractive industries.
The portal, launched on April 26th, 2024, provides open access to information and data regarding Zambia’s mineral resources, marking a new era of transparency for stakeholders and the public.
Ian Mwiinga, National Coordinator of ZEITI, expressed delight in the launch of the portal, emphasizing its importance in providing transparent access to information about Zambia’s natural resources.
He highlighted the portal as a significant step forward in promoting transparency and accountability in the management of the country’s mineral wealth.
Mwiinga also commended Zambia for being the first country in Africa to publish ‘G-Factor for Natural Resources’ data for key mining companies.
This data reveals the percentage of a mining company’s revenue that is paid to Zambia in direct taxes and dividends, offering insight into the efficiency of these companies in contributing to Zambia’s wealth.
At the launch event in Lusaka, Dr. Hapenga M. Kabeta, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the mining sector.
He highlighted the significance of the online portal in disclosing mining information and data, including the G-Factor for Natural Resources calculations, which demonstrate the contribution of mining companies to government revenue.
