Minister Warns of License Cancellation for Violating Concession Conditions
The Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Hon. Eng. Collins Nzovu MP, issued a stern warning that concession licenses found in violation of their conditions will face cancellation.
The minister delivered this message during his attendance at the 2024 Kuomboka ceremony for The Litunga la Mboela Mulena Mukwae Imwiko of Lwambi Chiefdom in Nalolo District, Western Province.
Speaking under the theme “Cultural Heritage, Adapting to Climate Change,” Hon. Nzovu emphasized the need for compliance with concession license conditions, particularly in the context of illegal logging prevalent in Western Province.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration with the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) to address these challenges effectively.
“The Forestry Department has been instructed to swiftly audit all concession licenses for compliance. Those found violating the conditions will have their licenses cancelled,” stated Hon. Nzovu. “We aim to work closely with the BRE due to their well-structured system and long-standing stewardship over natural resources.”
Hon. Nzovu further commended the BRE and His Majesty the Litunga for their resilience in the face of climate change challenges.
He identified Western Province as a critical area for ensuring food security, given its abundant water resources.
The minister emphasized the importance of effective water management to maximize agricultural potential in the region.
“What Western Province requires is efficient water distribution to enhance agricultural productivity. Unlike other regions where water scarcity is a challenge, here, water resources are abundant. Our focus should be on water abstraction to optimize agricultural output,” remarked Hon. Nzovu.
