Grant Targets World Cup Qualification and Long-Term Success for Zambia

Veteran coach Avram Grant is setting his sights on World Cup qualification and building a strong foundation for Zambian football in the long term.

Grant, who took charge of the Chipolopolo in December 2022, has already overseen a period of progress. Zambia secured qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time since 2015 and impressed at the tournament despite a group-stage exit.

The Israeli coach is now focused on the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026™ qualifiers, where Zambia has taken three points from their opening two games.

Grant acknowledges the challenge ahead, particularly facing teams like Morocco, but remains optimistic, referencing his time at Chelsea where he defied expectations and led the team to a Champions League final.

Beyond immediate results, Grant is committed to developing Zambian football at the grassroots level.

He emphasizes the importance of improving pitches, developing coaching staff, and investing in youth development.

Grant describes his coaching philosophy as being like a “father figure” to his players, demanding discipline and commitment while empowering them on the pitch.

Looking back on his career, Grant highlights his achievements at Portsmouth, where he led a struggling team to the FA Cup final, and with Ghana, where he reached the AFCON final.

Grant’s passion for the game is evident, citing his love for competition, creativity, and the unifying power of football.

He remains motivated to use football as a tool for social good, referencing past projects aimed at bringing people together through the sport.
