Football Legend Collins Mbesuma Graces Castrol Trophy Premier League Tour  in Lusaka

Football enthusiasts and fans gathered at the Manda Hill Shopping Mall in Lusaka, Zambia for the much-anticipated Castrol Trophy Premier League tour. The occasion marked a significant milestone as the prestigious trophy made its latest stop on a global tour spanning over 200 countries to commemorate the league’s 30th anniversary, which began in 2022. Zambia became the third country in Africa to host the trophy, following South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The event was graced by the presence of Zambian football legend, Collins Mbesuma, who was accompanied by fellow former Chipolopolo striker, Emmanuel Mayuka. Mbesuma, renowned for his illustrious career both domestically and internationally, represented Zambia as a brand ambassador for the Premier League trophy tour in Zambia.

Sharing his insights on the Premier League, Mbesuma, who made history as the first Zambian to play in the league during his stint with Portsmouth, reflected on the significance of the trophy. Despite not having the opportunity to see or lift the trophy during his time in the UK, Mbesuma expressed gratitude to Castrol for bringing the iconic trophy to Zambia.

“I just want to thank Castrol for bringing the wonderful trophy that everyone wants to play for. Everyone is thinking of playing in that league. We are appreciating what they have done, to bring the trophy to my country, to my people, and to me because I never got the chance to go near it,” said Mbesuma.

The veteran striker, who enjoyed a successful career spanning several clubs, including a memorable spell with Kaizer Chiefs before making the leap to the English Premier League, highlighted the honor of being part of such an esteemed competition.

“It is a big honor for me to be a part of this whole set-up. I played for a long time in this league and I never got near this trophy, we all know that. In short, I am happy I have come close to it myself,” Mbesuma stated.

In addition to his achievements on the field, Mbesuma revealed his commitment to nurturing young football talents by establishing an academy. He credited Castrol Oil, facilitated by Dana Oil Corporation, for enabling the realization of his vision to support aspiring footballers in Zambia.

Jennifer Heyes, Marketing Director Africa at Castrol, chimed in to express her delight in the brand’s long-standing partnership with the EPL, which has now surpassed two years. She believes this collaboration resonates deeply with all football fans and sports enthusiasts.

She also took the opportunity to remind fans that Castrol sponsors the Playmaker of the Season and the Golden Glove awards, which are announced at the end of the Premier League season.
