SADC Mission in Mozambique Hands Over Donated Equipment to Local Forces
The Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) is scheduled to end its mission on July 15th, 2024. As part of the drawdown process, a handover ceremony took place on Thursday, April 18th.
During the ceremony, representatives from SAMIM leadership transferred a portion of the equipment donated by the European Union (EU) to the Forças Armadas de Defesa de Moçambique (FADM), Mozambique’s military.
Brigadier T.E. Paumbele, representing FADM, received the donated equipment which included vehicles, boats, and refrigerated containers.
Brigadier Paumbele expressed his gratitude for the valuable donation on behalf of FADM.
He emphasized that the Mozambican forces are committed to using the equipment effectively in various missions, particularly those focused on combating terrorism in Cabo Delgado province, a region facing an ongoing insurgency.
The Brigadier concluded the ceremony by extending his sincere thanks to the European Union for its support in strengthening Mozambique’s military capabilities.
