Zambians and Tanzanians Arrested for Trafficking and Cultivation – DEC
Zambia’s Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has conducted country-wide operations, leading to multiple arrests for drug trafficking and cultivation.
In a major bust, a Tanzanian truck driver was apprehended in Kazungula District with nearly 89 kilograms of cannabis hidden in his truck.
Another Tanzanian national was arrested in Lusaka for possessing cannabis and suspected crystal methamphetamine.
The DEC also targeted drug trafficking within Zambia. Two women of Somali origin were arrested in Ndola for selling khat mirra, while a couple in Luanshya was caught with over five kilograms of loose cannabis.
North-Western and Muchinga Provinces saw operations against cannabis cultivation. The DEC arrested four individuals cultivating a combined total of over 700 kilograms of cannabis plants.
Theresa Mawere, Assistant Public Relations Officer at 𝐃𝐫𝐮𝐠 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 has emphasized commission’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking and abuse in Zambia.
She urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to support their efforts in creating a safer, drug-free country.
