Lusaka Mayor Calls for Collaboration in Fighting Climate Change Challenges
Lusaka Mayor, Ms. Chilando Chitangala, who also serves as the Vice Chairperson for the Covenant of Mayors in Sub-Saharan Africa, has emphasized the importance of collaboration at the community level and stakeholder engagement across various sectors to effectively address climate change impacts.
Ms. Chitangala advocates for a participatory approach, believing that working together can lead to better solutions for challenges faced by the city, including those linked to climate change, such as the rise of diarrheal diseases.
She expressed the willingness of civic leaders to collaborate with stakeholders who strive to bring positive change to communities and enhance the well-being of residents.
The Mayor highlighted the urgency of implementing interventions to mitigate the effects of extreme weather events being experienced in Lusaka and Zambia as a whole.
Her remarks came during a two-day workshop organized as part of the DRR-4Africa project, held at Protea Hotel in Lusaka.
