Luangwa Boarding School to Reopen Tomorrow Following Closure Due to Diarrhoea Outbreak

Luangwa Boarding Secondary School is set to resume operations tomorrow, April 3rd, 2024, after a temporary closure on March 9th, 2024, due to a diarrhoea outbreak that affected students.

Benjamin Chisulo, Luangwa District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), announced the reopening, stating that the decision was made after addressing water and sanitation issues at the school.

Chisulo explained that a commercial borehole has been drilled in Kamanga village, funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). This borehole is expected to provide the school with a steady supply of approximately 21,000 liters of water per hour, ensuring consistent access throughout the day.

Additionally, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has provided assistance by supplying six 10,000-liter water tanks for storage purposes.

Chisulo further disclosed that ablution blocks at the school have undergone rehabilitation to improve sanitation conditions for the learners, emphasizing the importance of a conducive environment for their well-being.

In an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka, Chisulo assured parents that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety and health of students, and that the school is now ready to resume educational activities.

The reopening of Luangwa Boarding Secondary School signifies a positive step forward in addressing the challenges faced by the institution, reaffirming the commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for students.
