Canadian Municipalities Meet Lusaka Mayor to Talk About Climate Change and Governance
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) talked with the Mayor of Lusaka, Ms. Chilando Chitangala, about important issues like climate change, waste management, and governance.
They also talked about why it’s important to involve women in these discussions.
Mayor Chitangala said it’s crucial to include women and kids in talks about climate change because they’re most affected by it.
She also stressed the need for more awareness about using clean energy sources to protect the environment.
The Mayor also talked about the importance of teaching kids about managing waste properly.
She said educating them early on will help keep Lusaka clean and green for the future.
Nora Benamra from FCM talked about how important municipalities are in a country’s governance.
She said they need support to do all the important things they do for the people they serve.
Councillor Anik Des Maria and Mpatanji Namumba from the Local Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) were also part of the discussion.
They showed support for FCM and LGAZ’s partnership to empower women in local leadership roles.
