Lwanza Traditional Ceremony Preparations Underway: Fundraising Event Announced
Preparations for the highly anticipated Lwanza Traditional Ceremony of the Lundwe People, scheduled to be held from the 9th to the 11th of August 2024, are officially underway.
The announcement of the ceremony dates has spurred the activation of all subcommittees by the Main Committee Chairperson, Gift Monde, to ensure the successful hosting of this year’s event.
In a statement released by Mike Munkombwe, the Publicity Chairperson of the 2024 Lwanza Traditional Ceremony, it was revealed that preparations have kicked off with vigor following the setting of the ceremony dates.
The fundraising committee has wasted no time in scheduling a crucial fundraising event slated for the 30th of March 2024, at Chamba Valley Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Mess in Lusaka.
Highlighting the significance of this event, Munkombwe emphasized that it is just one of many fundraising initiatives planned across various regions, including the Copperbelt, Chipata, Eastern Province, Solwezi, Northwestern Province, and Choma in Southern Province.
“We call upon the business community, corporate organizations, individuals, government and quasi-government institutions across the country to support the fundraising efforts,” stated Munkombwe.
He underscored the importance of collective support in ensuring the success of the ceremony, which serves to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Lundwe people.
The Lwanza Traditional Ceremony, an annual affair held in the second week of August, holds deep cultural significance for the Lundwe people of Bweengwa in Chief Hamusonde’s area. It is a time for celebrating their animal wealth and paying homage to ancestral spirits believed to reside in the mystical Lwanza River.
Munkombwe emphasized the unifying role of traditional ceremonies like Lwanza, stating that they bring together Zambians from all walks of life, transcending boundaries and fostering national unity.
“These ceremonies serve as a reminder of our cultural heritage, embodying the values and principles that define us as a people,” Munkombwe added.
