ZAMMSA Initiates Distribution of K700 Million Mop-Up Stock to Bolster Healthcare Services Nationwide
The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has embarked on the distribution of K700 million worth of medicines and medical supplies procured through a recent Mop-up Exercise, aimed at addressing stock imbalances in hospitals across the country.
According to Bradley Chingobe, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at ZAMMSA, contracts worth K700 million were awarded to 24 local suppliers last month to supply and deliver health commodities urgently needed in secondary healthcare facilities.
“With the arrival of these life-saving commodities, ZAMMSA has implemented measures to ensure the swift delivery of supplies to tertiary and level one hospitals within a four-week timeframe, effectively mitigating stock imbalances at tertiary service delivery points,” Mr. Chingobe disclosed.
In Lusaka province alone, six out of the 14 targeted tertiary health facilities have already received their allocations, representing 43% of the distribution, with the remaining facilities expected to receive their supplies within the week.
Furthermore, stock for facilities in other provinces is currently being transported to respective regional hubs to facilitate efficient and expedited distribution.
Mr. Chingobe emphasized that the distribution of stock from the Mop-up Exercise is being carried out simultaneously with routine orders and last-mile distribution of health commodities, such as Health Center Kits, as per the ZAMMSA Distribution Schedule.
This coordinated effort aims to ensure seamless and uninterrupted access to essential medical supplies for communities nationwide, promoting equitable healthcare services.
ZAMMSA remains steadfast in its commitment to its vision of becoming a world-class supply chain for essential medicines and medical supplies, striving to contribute to a healthy and productive Zambia.
