Zambia and China Mutual Cooperation
Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, has called for strengthened cooperation between Zambia and the Republic of China across various domains, emphasizing the importance of mutual collaboration in enhancing security and fostering socio-economic development.
In a meeting held at the ministry headquarters on 5th March, Minister Mwiimbu welcomed a delegation from China, underscoring the significance of bilateral relations between the two nations.
He cataloged a range of areas where cooperation could be intensified, including digital forensics, cyber-crime investigations, policing, anti-terrorism measures, anti-money laundering efforts, and immigration procedures.
Expressing Zambia’s commitment to bolstering security cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations, Minister Mwiimbu assured the visiting delegation of his ministry’s unwavering support and protection of Chinese citizens and investments within Zambia.
Furthermore, Minister Mwiimbu highlighted the readiness of the Zambia Correctional Service to engage in collaborative efforts, particularly in promoting irrigation farming through joint partnerships, indicating a multifaceted approach to bilateral cooperation beyond traditional security measures.
In response, delegation leader Xiao Xuesong conveyed appreciation for the warm reception and emphasized the delegation’s visit as a significant step towards strengthening cooperation between Zambia and China.
With both countries commemorating the 60th Anniversary of their friendship this year, Mr. Xuesong expressed China’s aspirations for enhanced collaboration across various sectors, including security and training programs.
The meeting comes in the wake of President Hakainde Hichilema’s State Visit to China in September last year, where a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, covering a spectrum of sectors vital to Zambia’s economy.
The visit underscored the mutual commitment of Zambia and China towards deepening their longstanding friendship and exploring avenues for comprehensive cooperation.
