COVID-19 Cases Reported in Central Province Boarding Schools Prompt Urgent Government Response

In response to concerning reports of COVID-19 outbreaks within boarding schools in Central Province, the government has swiftly taken action to contain the spread and ensure the safety of students.

Authorities have confirmed that several boarding schools in the region, including Kapiri Tech National Stem School and Chisamba Boarding School, have reported cases of COVID-19 among their student populations.

A team of experts was dispatched to Kapiri Tech National Stem School where 28 out of 90 pupils tested positive for COVID-19. Further screenings revealed an additional 6 cases, bringing the total to 34 confirmed cases out of 582 students screened. Despite the alarming numbers, officials assure that all infected individuals are in stable condition, with only two requiring hospitalization for further observation.

Similarly, a screening exercise at Chisamba Boarding School uncovered 12 cases among its learners. Health experts have confirmed that all affected students are also in stable condition.

In response to these developments, the government has taken decisive measures to contain the spread of the virus. Affected students have been isolated within the school premises, and stringent precautionary measures are being implemented to prevent further transmission.

Milner Mwanakampwe, Central Province Permanent Secretary, emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and practicing preventive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, he urged citizens across Central Province to remain vigilant and adhere to recommended protocols.

Acknowledging the critical role of parents and guardians in safeguarding the health and welfare of students, Mwanakampwe reassured the public that the government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, is prioritizing the safety of young learners. Urging against panic, he affirmed that every effort is being made to swiftly address the situation and ensure the safety of all students.

Mwanakampwe said that the government will closely monitor the situation and remains committed to bringing the outbreak under control, underscoring its dedication to protecting the health and future of the nation’s youth.
