Yango Driver Found Dead in Lusaka
Tragedy struck in Lusaka’s Chalala area today as the lifeless body of a suspected Yango driver was discovered, sparking a police investigation into what appears to be a gruesome murder.
According to Danny Mwale, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, authorities were alerted early this morning around 06:30 hours by a concerned citizen reporting the discovery of a deceased individual off Given Lubinda Road near Two Sisters Complex.
Responding officers arrived at the scene to find the body of a man lying approximately 10 meters away from a Toyota VVTI vehicle, beige in color, registered under the number ACV 6966.
The victim was identified as Michael Mulenga, aged 24, through a driving license found at the scene.
Mulenga was clad in a green T-shirt and grey trousers, with signs suggesting he had been strangled with a cloth, evidenced by bruises on his neck and the presence of the cloth on the driver’s seat.
Preliminary investigations revealed that besides the tragic loss of life, the vehicle had been subjected to theft, with the car battery, two side mirrors, a radio cassette player, and the radiator all missing from the scene.
Additionally, the driver’s license belonging to Mulenga was discovered alongside two lady handbags, adding further perplexity to the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have transferred the deceased’s body to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary pending a postmortem examination, while a formal inquiry file has been opened to delve deeper into the matter.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the safety and security of drivers working within the transportation sector.
As investigations continue, residents are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure justice is served for Michael Mulenga and his grieving loved ones.
