Zambia and Ghana Pledge to Actualize Agreed MoUs and Strengthen Bilateral Relations
President Hakainde Hichilema has underscored the importance of advancing the enduring ties between Zambia and Ghana by urging both nations to proceed with the execution of several agreements.
This appeal was made during a discussion with Shirley Botchwer, the Ghanaian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, held at State House.
President Hichilema highlighted the historical ties between the two countries, which date back to their respective struggles for independence, stressing the importance of enhanced cooperation.
He referenced his previous visit to Ghana, where discussions with Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo centered on mutually beneficial programs such as waste management, which could serve as models for both nations.
Acknowledging Ghana’s nomination of Minister Botchwer to an international role, President Hichilema underscored the significance of African participation in global decision-making processes.
He emphasized the need to advocate for changes in financial structures to ensure Africa’s fair treatment in accessing capital.
Minister Botchwer echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of implementing agreements to unlock the full potential of cooperation between Zambia and Ghana.
She expressed Ghana’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Zambia and underscored her country’s readiness to engage in joint ventures.
In a significant development, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mulambo Haimbe, revealed that Zambia and Ghana had signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in defense cooperation and enhanced relations.
These MoUs aim to facilitate the exchange of best practices and ideas, further solidifying bilateral ties between the two nations.
Additionally, the signing of the Minutes of the Inaugural Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation signals a commitment to ongoing dialogue and collaboration between Zambia and Ghana across various sectors.
