Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Gary Nkombo, MP, has urged traditional leaders to continue their collaboration with the government.

Hon. Nkombo emphasized the pivotal role traditional leaders play in advancing various developmental projects during his address at the Ncwala traditional ceremony fundraising dinner dance held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.

In an official statement issued by Chila Namaiko, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Minister highlighted the significance of traditional leaders within the governance framework of communities, emphasizing their role as crucial partners in driving development alongside their subjects.

He particularly commended His Royal Highness Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV for his steadfast support of the government’s agenda aimed at improving citizens’ livelihoods.

Speaking on the theme “Cultural pride, promoting reconciliation for national unity,” Hon. Nkombo stressed the importance of tradition and culture in national development.

He underscored that traditional ceremonies not only serve as reminders of Zambia’s origins, norms, and values but also contribute significantly to promoting national unity, peace, and harmony.

Furthermore, Hon. Nkombo announced a generous donation of K200,000.00 from His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema and the First Lady, Mrs. Hichilema, towards the upcoming Ncwala traditional ceremony scheduled to take place on 24th February, 2024, at Mtenguleni Village.

This gesture reflects the government’s commitment to supporting cultural events and ceremonies that uphold Zambia’s heritage and foster unity among its people.

The Ncwala traditional ceremony’s national organizing committee chairperson, Mr. Betsy Nkhoma, lauded the government’s unwavering support for traditional ceremonies, recognizing its positive impact on preserving Zambia’s cultural identity and promoting national cohesion.

With this call for collaboration between traditional leaders and the government, coupled with President Hichilema’s donation towards the Ncwala ceremony, Zambia looks poised to continue its trajectory towards inclusive development and cultural preservation.
