Minister Ensures President HH to Confer Award on Chimambo

The Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Collins Nzovu, has offered a heartfelt tribute to the late Veteran Environmentalist Robert Kunda Chimambo. 

In his tribute, Minister Nzovu reassured the public that President Hakainde Hichilema will be honoring the esteemed environmental advocate with a posthumous award.

Addressing the congregation at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka during the farewell ceremony for Mr. Chimambo, Minister Nzovu expressed the President’s appreciation for Chimambo’s influential role in environmental advocacy. 

The minister highlighted that significant decisions, including the closure of mines for environmental violations, were influenced by Mr. Chimambo’s tireless advocacy for sustainable practices.

Minister Nzovu encouraged environmentalists to draw inspiration from Chimambo’s four decades of unwavering commitment to environmental causes, citing his dedication as a driving force behind positive change.

Monica Chundama, Chairperson of the Zambia Climate Change Network (ZCCN), lauded Mr. Chimambo’s pivotal role in the establishment of ZCCN. The organization stands as a testament to his enduring legacy and impact on environmental initiatives in Zambia.

Mthika Mwenda, Executive Director of Pan African Climate Justice (PACJA), headquartered in Kenya, extended condolences and acknowledged Mr. Chimambo’s influential stance on environmental issues. 

He emphasized that Chimambo’s contributions would be sorely missed not only at the national level but also on the continental and global stage.

Robert Kunda Chimambo, born on February 1st, 1947, passed away on January 27th, 2024, and was laid to rest on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024, at Leopards Hill Memorial Park in Lusaka. 

As the nation bids farewell to a dedicated environmentalist, President Hichilema’s commitment to honoring Chimambo’s legacy reflects the profound impact he had on environmental conservation in Zambia.
