A high-powered Zambian delegation touched down in Davos, Switzerland on 14th January, for the 2024 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), set to kick off on Monday, January 15th, and conclude on Friday, January 19th.

Led by Finance and National Planning Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, the team, representing President Hakainde Hichilema, aims to position Zambia as an attractive investment destination on the global stage.

The delegation, which includes key figures such as Commerce Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga and State House Principal Private Secretary Bradford Machila, is set to engage in a series of high-profile meetings and discussions with representatives from major economies such as China, France, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Qatar, and the United States.

Dr. Musokotwane emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering both local and foreign investments, with a particular focus on sectors like the green economy, mining, agriculture, tourism, and human development.

The Zambian team is slated to participate in various special purpose panel discussions during the forum, including sessions on trade facilitation, the future of global jobs, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), tax systems, climate action, and the role of technology in boosting trade.

With President Hichilema designating 2024 as a pivotal year for unlocking Zambia’s economic potential, the delegation aims to leverage the WEF platform to attract investment, create job opportunities, and elevate Zambia as a preferred destination for stable investment in Africa.

The 2024 WEF Annual Meeting is expected to draw participation from over 100 governments worldwide, major international organizations, 1,000 partner companies of the Forum, civil society leaders, experts from various sectors, youth representatives, social entrepreneurs, and the media.

The Zambian delegation will also be featured on international television stations such as CNBC and the Chinese Global and Television Network (CGTN) throughout the week.
