Kansanshi Mining Plc Empowers Solwezi Cooperatives with K2 Million Financial Boost
Kansanshi Mining Plc, a prominent mining company, has presented cheques totaling K2 million to five cooperatives in Solwezi. Each cooperative received K400,000 as the final installment of the financial support provided by the mine throughout the year.
As part of its dedication to fostering local cooperative growth, Kansanshi Mining Plc initiated the Tujipamo Community Project earlier this year. Since January, the mine has granted a total of K5,156,000 to the cooperatives, supporting various business endeavors under this initiative.
Pamela Chola, Commercial Manager at Kansanshi Mining Plc, handed over the cheques to the cooperatives, emphasizing the success of the pilot project. Due to its positive impact, the mine plans to extend this initiative to support another group of cooperatives next year.
Ms. Chola highlighted that the financial assistance is an integral part of Kansanshi’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its broader aim to promote economic growth, not only in Solwezi but also in North-Western Province and across the entire country.
The six cooperatives initially involved in the project are Twibamo Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Mutezhi Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Samarai Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Norwestec Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Hidden Wisdom Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
However, one cooperative, having received the first three installments totaling K526,000, was excluded from the final group due to its failure to utilize the funds according to their business proposals, a key requirement for continued participation.
The financial support provided by Kansanshi Mining Plc underscores the company’s commitment to empowering local communities and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
