LCC Receives Vital Donation for Cholera Prevention from Pharmanova Zambia Limited
In a proactive move to bolster cholera prevention efforts within the communities, the Lusaka City Council (LCC) received a substantial donation from Pharmanova Zambia Limited.
The donation, comprising 3,744 bottles of 250ml Klori-pure chlorine and 600 bottles of 750ml bleach, was officially handed over to the LCC in support of their initiatives to curb the spread of cholera and other diarrheal diseases.
Lusaka’s Mayor, Her Worship, Ms. Chilando Chitangala, expressed gratitude upon receiving the donation, emphasizing the invaluable role the chlorine will play in water treatment and disinfection across the city.
She underscored the significance of this donation in contributing to the prevention and control of cholera, further emphasizing the importance of maintaining good hygiene standards to minimize the risk of such diseases.
Ms. Chitangala disclosed that collaborative efforts through integrated partnerships and national response teams have been actively engaged in cholera prevention programs, particularly in vulnerable areas within Lusaka District.
The focus remains on encouraging households to adopt and uphold high standards of hygiene practices.
The Mayor reiterated the Local Authority’s commitment to supporting community programs that advocate for positive behavioral practices in hygiene, emphasizing their pivotal role in disease prevention.
She outlined the council’s ongoing efforts to foster partnerships that advocate for a clean, green, and healthy environment, intending to enhance health practices and reduce disease burden within communities.
However, Ms. Chitangala noted that unplanned settlements pose a heightened risk of waterborne disease outbreaks, particularly during the rainy season.
This underscores the urgency of sustained efforts in vulnerable areas to mitigate potential health risks.
Pharmanova Zambia Limited reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the LCC, expressing their dedication to collaborating in the ongoing battle against cholera in at-risk areas.
Nelly Nkolongo, the Public Relations Officer, highlighted the significance of the donation and emphasized the importance of these concerted efforts in combating cholera within Lusaka and promoting a healthier living environment for its residents.
The donation represents a significant stride in the fight against cholera and highlights the ongoing dedication of the Lusaka City Council and its partners to protect public health and mitigate the risks posed by waterborne diseases, especially during susceptible periods.
