36-Year-Old Man Arrested for Assaulting Wife at Lusaka West Bar
A 36-year-old man, identified as Donald Banda from Kalonga area in Lusaka West, has been taken into police custody following an incident of domestic violence. He is accused of assaulting his 26-year-old wife, Priscilla Munyokosa, of Mwanamulonda farm in Lusaka West.
According to a statement released by Danny Mwale, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, the assault occurred on the evening of October 25, 2023, at approximately 11:00 PM, at Nkaza Bar, located along Mumbwa Road in Lusaka West.
In the statement, Priscilla Munyokosa sustained injuries to her face, cuts on her head, and a swollen left eye. It is believed that these injuries were inflicted using fists and kicks.
Police investigations have revealed that the couple had been separated for several months but were jointly running a liquor business in Lusaka West. Last month, Priscilla Munyokosa had gone to stay with her parents in Choma, Southern Province.
Mr. Mwale said that on October 25, 2023, she returned to check on the business, which her husband had been managing during her absence. A fight broke out during the stocktaking process, with bar patrons witnessing the altercation and taking photographs instead of intervening.
He further stated that Priscilla Munyokosa subsequently reported the matter to the police. Her husband also complained of a swollen left leg and a fractured right hand.
Both parties were issued with Police medical report forms and received medical attention. The man was attended to and discharged the same day, while Priscilla Munyokosa was referred to Kanyama Level One Hospital, where she was admitted. She was discharged on October 27th, 2023, and her condition is reported to be stable.
According to Mr. Mwale, on October 27th, 2023, at approximately 10:00 AM, the man was arrested and charged with the offense of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm. He is expected to appear in court in the near future.
