Copperbelt Province Minister Commends Workers’ Contributions at Labour Day Celebration
The Copperbelt Province Minister, Honorable Elisha Matambo, extended heartfelt gratitude to workers across the province during this year’s Labour Day festivities held at the Diggers Rugby Club in Kitwe.
Under the theme “Building Resilience: Workers at the Heart of Zambia’s Economic Recovery,” the event served as a poignant tribute to the invaluable contributions of the workforce towards national progress.
Hon. Matambo, honored to be the guest of honor at the event, hailed the remarkable increase in participation, with approximately 60 companies represented—an indicator of the thriving business environment fostered by the New Dawn Government led by His Excellency, President Hakainde Hichilema.
The Minister underscored the Government’s unwavering commitment to addressing economic challenges faced by workers, citing significant achievements made within just two and a half years in office.
These achievements include the unlocking of the mining sector, implementation of the Free Education Policy, increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and a landmark Debt Restructuring Deal, all aimed at bolstering economic resilience and ensuring equitable distribution of resources.
Furthermore, Hon. Matambo emphasized the Government’s dedication to improving working conditions for all workers, including domestic and shop workers, while calling upon employers to treat their employees with dignity and fairness.
In a bid to cultivate a skilled labor force aligned with industry needs, the Government continues to invest in skills training for young people, with heightened scrutiny of institutions to ensure quality education delivery.
The Minister also urged workers utilizing the NAPSA Partial Withdrawal scheme to prudently invest their resources for the betterment of their families and communities, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to safeguarding workers’ rights and promoting decent work environments.
In closing, Hon. Matambo expressed profound gratitude to all workers for their unwavering dedication and resilience, extending congratulations to those honored with awards while encouraging others to strive for excellence in their endeavors.
