Mpika MP Calls for Urgent Action on TAZARA Worker Salary Arrears
Hon. Francis Robert Kapyanga, Member of Parliament for Mpika Constituency, has expressed deep concern regarding the prolonged salary arrears faced by Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) employees.
According to a statement issued by Mr. Kapyanga’s office, TAZARA workers haven’t received their salaries for four months.
He considers this situation “unacceptable and unjust.”
Mr. Kapyanga emphasized TAZARA’s critical role as a transportation and trade artery between Zambia and Tanzania.
He acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the TAZARA workforce, calling them the “backbone” of the institution.
The Mpika MP urged the government to take immediate action to address the situation.
He called for the immediate disbursement of outstanding salaries to alleviate the financial hardship faced by TAZARA workers and their families.
Mr. Kapyanga also proposed a long-term solution – expediting the concession process for TAZARA.
He believes a well-managed concession can bring in new capital, expertise, and improved efficiency, ensuring TAZARA’s sustainability and continued contribution to the regional economy.
Mr. Kapyanga expressed solidarity with TAZARA workers and pledged to continue advocating for their fair treatment and timely payment of their wages.
