SADC and European Union Deepen Partnership for Regional Development
The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), H.E Elias M. Magosi, recently received a courtesy call from Mr. George Dura, the Deputy Head of Unit for the Regional Programme for Sub Saharan Africa at the European Commission’s Directorate General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) on 8th April 2024.
The meeting preceded a Technical Programming Workshop between the European Union Delegation (EUD) and the SADC Secretariat, focusing on the programming and implementation of the regional Multiannual Indicative Programming for Sub-Saharan Africa (MIP SSA), and the upcoming Annual Action Plan for 2025/26.
The SADC Executive Secretary warmly welcomed Mr. Dura to the Secretariat, expressing gratitude for the continued support from the EU towards the implementation of SADC’s regional integration agenda.
Accompanying Mr. Dura was H.E. Ambassador Petra Pereyra, the Head of EU Delegation to Botswana and SADC.
During the workshop, co-chaired by Ms. Angele Makombo N’tumba, the Deputy Executive Secretary responsible for Regional Integration at the SADC Secretariat, and Mr. Dura, the two organizations delved into discussions regarding SADC Priority programmes, implementation and Programming of the 2021-2027 MIP SSA, and identified key issues requiring attention in the implementation of SADC MIP SSA programmes.
The SADC Secretariat is actively mobilizing resources for prioritized projects covering six strategic areas outlined in the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030.
These areas include Peace, Security and Democratic Governance; Industrial Development and Market Integration; Infrastructure Development in Support of Regional Integration; Social and Human Capital Development; and Cross-cutting Issues such as Gender, Youth, Environment, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management.
