Gov’t Commends ICTAZ’s Role in Advancing Zambia’s ICT Sector at 2024 Conference in Livingstone
The Government of Zambia has praised the Information Communication and Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ) for its innovative and transformative contributions to the country’s ICT sector.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 ICTAZ conference in Livingstone, Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati, expressed confidence in the association’s efforts to elevate the professionalism and connectivity of Zambia’s ICT landscape.
Under the theme “Innovative, Connect, Transform: Establishing the Technology Industry as a Key Economic Pillar,” the conference highlights ICTAZ’s commitment to fostering innovation and connectivity within the sector.
Minister Mutati praised the association for its growth and achievements, noting the significant strides made in digital solutions and innovations.
One notable accomplishment highlighted by Minister Mutati was Zambia’s selection to host the 2025 Africa World Skills Competition, a testament to the country’s evolving digital capabilities.
He also lauded Zambia’s performance in global cyber security competitions and applauded ICTAZ’s role in drafting statutory instruments to regulate and enhance the sector.
Minister Mutati emphasized the importance of embracing digital transformation as Zambia celebrates sixty years of independence, calling for the development of digital innovation hubs to drive economic growth and prosperity.
He cited the country’s impressive digital infrastructure growth, with a 19.5 percent expansion in 2023 and plans to achieve 94 percent digital connectivity by the end of 2024.
Additionally, Minister Mutati announced Zambia’s hosting of the Mine Technology Innovation hub, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Timbuktoo Initiative, underscoring the country’s commitment to technological advancement.
In his remarks, ICTAZ President Dr. Clement Sinyangwe commended the government’s support for the association, particularly in ensuring compliance with the ICTAZ Act of 2019.
He highlighted ICTAZ’s efforts to promote ethical professional conduct among practitioners and emphasized the association’s role in driving innovation and digital solutions.
Dr. Sinyangwe also recognized the participation of women technologists at the conference, underscoring ICTAZ’s commitment to diversity and inclusion within the ICT sector.
