SADC Secretariat Celebrates Namibia’s 34th Independence Day
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat marked the 34th Independence Day of the Republic of Namibia on 21st March 2024, with Acting Executive Secretary, Dr. Judith Kateera, leading the celebrations at the SADC Secretariat headquarters.
Namibia’s Independence Day is commemorated under the theme “A People United for Prosperity,” reflecting the nation’s journey towards unity and economic advancement since gaining independence from apartheid South Africa on March 21st, 1990. The occasion pays tribute to the courage and sacrifices of Namibia’s sons and daughters who fought for freedom.
During the celebration, Dr. Kateera praised Namibia for its historic achievements and highlighted the significant contributions of the late President Dr. Hage G. Geingob, who passed away on February 4, 2024. Dr. Kateera urged Namibians and the region to honor Dr. Geingob’s legacy and continue his work towards progress and unity.
Namibia’s accession to the SADC in 1990, under the leadership of Dr. Sam Nujoma, marked a pivotal moment in regional cooperation. Over the past 34 years, Namibia has emerged as a proud nation, characterized by democracy, rule of law, peace, stability, and diversity.
The SADC Secretariat extended its wishes for enduring peace, prosperity, and joy to all Namibians, as well as future generations. As Namibia celebrates its 34th Independence Day, the nation stands as a beacon of hope and progress in the Southern African region.
Happy 34th Independence Day to the Republic of Namibia and its people.
