Government Recognizes and Honors Volunteers for Dedicated Service
In Luapula Province’s Chifunabuli district, the Zambian government expressed profound gratitude and appreciation for the invaluable contributions of volunteers toward the nation’s socio-economic development.
This heartfelt recognition unfolded during yesterday’s ceremony dedicated to International Volunteers Day, where over 1000 volunteers marched in acknowledgment of their selfless service.
The event, held in Luapula, also celebrated outstanding individuals with prestigious awards for their exceptional dedication to the community.
The Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms. Doreen Mwamba, conveyed the government’s acknowledgment of the immeasurable support provided by volunteers across various sectors.
Speaking through Permanent Secretary Ms. Angela Kawandami, she affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting volunteers in every possible way.
The commemoration, conducted under the theme “If Everyone Did, Volunteering for a Better Zambia,” aimed to highlight the crucial role played by volunteers in enhancing the well-being of citizens.
Ms. Mwamba emphasized the government’s recognition of volunteers’ efforts in critical areas such as social protection, education, health, water, and sanitation.
Mr. James Wakiaga, the country representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), lauded the volunteers for their sacrifices, particularly during challenging times that demand immediate response and collaboration.
He underscored the significance of volunteering, which fosters self-organization among volunteers and encourages them to address local challenges and set development priorities.
Ms. Patricia Muyamwa, Director for Community Development and Chairperson of the Zambia Volunteer Committee, urged volunteers to maintain their commitment to improving communities, making them better places to live.
Expressing her gratitude, volunteer Anne Mwape extended thanks to the government and other stakeholders for recognizing and valuing the significant contributions of volunteers to national development.
The event not only celebrated the dedication of volunteers but also reinforced the importance of their role in creating positive change and fostering a better Zambia.
As the government pledges ongoing support, volunteers remain a crucial force in driving socio-economic progress across the nation.
