Kinetic7 Unveils Hydrogen-On-Demand System to Slash UK Energy Bills
UK households and businesses could benefit from cheaper, carbon-free energy after Kinetic7, the Abu Dhabi-based clean energy firm, unveiled its hydrogen-on-demand (HOD) platform.
The innovation, developed by Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist Rick Parish, promises to cut household energy bills by 30–45% and provide a reliable, low-cost alternative to traditional mains gas and LPG.
The HODbox™ system generates hydrogen gas safely and instantly at the point of demand, eliminating the need for expensive storage infrastructure. It is suitable for domestic and commercial use, providing energy for cooking, heating and hot water. The units are plug-and-play and can attach to the exterior of a property, offering energy independence even in off-grid locations.
Originally conceived for humanitarian purposes, Kinetic7 developed portable stoves – the Tribe™️ and Nomad™️ – powered by battery and solar energy. These stoves are entering commercialisation in Q3 2026 and meet 13 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, tackling energy poverty, reducing deforestation, and preventing 3.5 million premature deaths annually from traditional cooking fuels.
The company has since pivoted to address wider energy market challenges. Larger HODbox™ units have been designed for residential homes and commercial catering sectors, with prototypes in development for industrial applications.
Commenting on the launch, Rick Parish said: “The current energy crisis has highlighted the vulnerability of UK and European energy supplies. Hydrogen-on-demand is the future for safe, clean, and affordable energy. Our HODbox™ allows households to generate their own carbon-free energy without relying on legacy gas suppliers. This technology is scalable, safe, and can be rolled out rapidly to address energy insecurity.”
The UK government has recently introduced a £57 million emergency package to support households not covered by the energy price cap, including more than four million off-grid homes reliant on LPG and oil, which have seen energy costs surge by 80% in a single week.
Kinetic7’s HODbox™ offers a cost-effective solution, requiring only minimal water and electricity or solar power to operate, while producing zero carbon emissions.
Kinetic7’s innovation has been independently assessed by experts at Imperial College London, confirming its safety, efficiency, and viability. The HODbox™ is expected to enter production in early 2027, with a full market rollout planned later that year.
Beyond residential use, the HODbox™ and portable stoves are aimed at commercial kitchens, disaster relief, military, and emergency services, providing safe and portable hydrogen energy wherever needed.
The firm’s pioneering approach eliminates traditional storage risks associated with hydrogen gas, making it safer and more cost-effective than conventional hydrogen pilot schemes. A demonstration of the Nomad™️ stove was recently held at the Palace of Westminster, attended by members of the House of Lords, underlining government interest in alternative clean energy solutions.
