UG, PSMF Partner to Boost Retirement Preparedness for Public Workers
The Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (UG) and the Public Service Micro Finance Company (PSMF) have agreed to collaborate on a pre-retirement programme aimed at strengthening financial preparedness among public service employees.
The partnership was discussed during a courtesy call led by UG National Coordinator for Education and Training, Samwaka Sambiana, who was accompanied by Director for Education and Training Monze Xavier and Director for Research and International Relations Humphrey Fumpa.
The initiative focuses on equipping union members with practical skills, financial literacy and structured planning tools to better prepare for life after retirement.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr Fumpa highlighted the Union’s growing membership base and outlined the incentives available to members, emphasising the importance of programmes that support long-term financial stability.
PSMF Director of Operations Sydney Siluonde commended the Union for prioritising member empowerment through training and awareness initiatives on retirement preparedness.
He noted that PSMF offers products such as professional and trade tools designed to support public service workers in transitioning into entrepreneurship and building sustainable livelihoods beyond formal employment.
Mr Xavier added that the Union’s pre-retirement programme is tailored to enhance members’ capacity to make informed financial decisions and improve their economic resilience.
Under the agreement, UG will lead training efforts to build members’ capacity, while PSMF will provide access to financial services, with funding extended to individual members based on their specific interests and needs.
Mr Sambiana expressed appreciation for PSMF’s willingness to collaborate, reaffirming the Union’s commitment to initiatives that promote member welfare and empowerment.
