ZSIC Pays K2.6 Million for Heroes Stadium Roof Repairs

ZSIC General Insurance Limited has handed over K2,616,377.32 to the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts to facilitate repairs to the damaged roof at National Heroes Stadium.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Managing Director Trevor Jengajenga said the payout demonstrates the company’s commitment to national responsibility and its mandate to protect assets of strategic importance.

Mr Jengajenga reaffirmed the insurer’s position as a key partner in safeguarding public infrastructure, noting that the stadium roof was damaged in two separate storm-related incidents. He added that the claim was assessed and processed through expert technical evaluations in line with standard insurance settlement procedures.

He further highlighted the company’s strong financial standing, revealing that ZSIC General Insurance paid out over K500 million in claims in 2025 across sectors such as agriculture, motor insurance, public-sector assets and Constituency Development Fund (CDF)-supported portfolios.

Receiving the cheque, Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu commended the insurer for honouring the claim and supporting Government efforts to rehabilitate and upgrade the stadium.

Mr Nkandu noted that while the installation of a new hybrid turf has already enhanced the facility, completion of the roof repairs remains critical before the stadium can fully host competitive matches.

He explained that previous delays in undertaking the repair works were due to ongoing insurance processes, which have now been concluded, paving the way for restoration works to proceed.

“The works on the roof are critical because certain sections of the stadium infrastructure cannot be fully utilised until the necessary repairs are completed. This is why today’s handover is important,” Mr Nkandu said.

The Minister further emphasised Government’s commitment to ensuring that key public infrastructure, including sports facilities, is adequately insured and maintained.
