Burundi Firm Explores Investment in Zambia’s Fertiliser Value Chain

The Minister of Agriculture, Mr Reuben P. Mtolo, has led a delegation from ITRACOM Group of Companies of Burundi on an investment familiarisation visit to Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ), as part of efforts to attract strategic investment into the country’s fertiliser sector.

The delegation, led by ITRACOM Group Chairman Mr Adrien Ntigacika, expressed strong interest in investing in Zambia’s fertiliser value chain, with a particular focus on establishing an organo-mineral fertiliser plant combining cow dung and NPK.

The proposed investment aligns with the Government’s agenda to promote sustainable agriculture, improve soil health, and expand local fertiliser production to support farmers and enhance national food security.

During the visit, the delegation toured NCZ facilities to gain insight into Zambia’s fertiliser manufacturing capacity and explore areas for potential collaboration.

The Minister and the delegation also visited the Kafue Multi-Facility Economic Zone, where they were briefed on available industrial infrastructure and investment opportunities within the zone.

Mr Mtolo said the Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for both local and foreign investors, noting that increased investment in fertiliser production is critical to boosting agricultural productivity, supporting smallholder farmers, and strengthening food security.

The Ministry of Agriculture continues to engage regional and international partners to promote innovation, value addition, and sustainable agricultural development in Zambia.
