AAAZ Calls for Citizen Benefits as Zambia Records 14.3% Trade Growth
The Alliance for Accountability Advocates Zambia (AAAZ) has commended the Government for recording a 14.3 per cent increase in trade volumes in 2025, describing the performance as a positive signal of improving economic activity and market confidence.
Figures from the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) show that total trade rose from K530.3 billion in 2024 to K606.3 billion in 2025 for the period January to November.
AAAZ Communications Officer Melbourne Mushitu said the growth reflects progress in economic diplomacy, regional cooperation, and trade facilitation.
“This performance is a positive indicator of improving economic activity and reflects progress in strengthening trade relations, economic diplomacy, and market confidence,” she stated.
Ms Mushitu noted that enhanced cooperation within SADC, upgraded trade corridors, and more efficient border processes contributed to the positive trade outcomes.
She called on the Government to ensure that economic gains extend beyond statistics to benefit ordinary citizens, including SMEs, women- and youth-led businesses, and informal traders.
“Access to information is critical. Citizens must understand what these numbers mean for their livelihoods, businesses, and communities,” Ms Mushitu added, urging media professionals to strengthen economic reporting and make trade and policy matters more accessible to the public.
AAAZ reaffirmed its commitment to citizen-led accountability, public education, and socio-economic growth through advocacy and engagement.
