African Ambassadors Urged to Promote Unity and Common Positions at AU
Zambia’s Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Excellency Mr Albert Muchanga, has reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening African unity and bilateral cooperation following a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr Lamine Baali Yahiaoui, Ambassador of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union.
Ambassador Muchanga met Ambassador Baali Yahiaoui, who also serves as Dean of Ambassadors of the Northern Africa Region, in Addis Ababa, where discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations and advancing collective African interests within the African Union.
During the meeting, Ambassador Muchanga reiterated Zambia’s interest in deepening relations with the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and emphasised the importance of a strong, united African Union capable of speaking with one voice on global issues affecting the continent. He stressed that unity and coordinated action remain critical as Africa confronts complex global challenges.
He further urged African Ambassadors accredited to the African Union to continue advising their respective leaders on the need for collective engagement, constructive dialogue and the adoption of common positions. Such an approach, he said, would enable Africa to respond more effectively to emerging global challenges and advance the continent’s shared development vision, commonly referred to as “The Africa We Want”.
In his response, Ambassador Baali Yahiaoui called for a firm, robust and united African front, noting that Africa’s success depends on solidarity and cooperation among its nations. He highlighted the importance of unity of purpose, adding that his role as Dean of the Northern Africa Region is to promote cooperation and cohesion across the continent.
Ambassador Baali Yahiaoui also pointed to Africa’s collective response to the COVID-19 pandemic as a key example of what can be achieved when African countries work together, urging continued collaboration to address both current and future challenges facing the continent.
