Zambia Eyes Partnership with Yokogawa on Environmental Monitoring
The Government of Zambia is exploring potential collaboration with Yokogawa Electric Corporation to strengthen environmental monitoring and management, following a high-level engagement held in Lusaka on 21 January 2026.
A delegation from Yokogawa paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, where Permanent Secretary Dr Douty Chibamba underscored the importance of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) in advancing Zambia’s environmental protection agenda.
Dr Chibamba said the Government is committed to improving the quality of environmental data, enhancing regulatory compliance and safeguarding public health, noting that robust monitoring systems are critical to informed policy-making and enforcement.
As part of the engagement, Yokogawa organised a technical workshop on CEMS aimed at strengthening technical capacity and practical application of emissions monitoring systems within Zambia’s regulatory framework.
Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Dr Tobias Mulimbika, highlighted the country’s pursuit of inclusive economic growth anchored in environmental sustainability. He commended Yokogawa’s expertise in industrial automation and environmental monitoring, describing it as a strong foundation for potential strategic cooperation.
The Yokogawa team, led by Head of Africa Business Promotion Centre for Energy and Sustainability, Mr Takeshi Hasegawa, alongside senior engineers and sales managers, presented the company’s CEMS and Data Acquisition System (Y-DAS) solutions. They expressed readiness to support Zambia’s environmental management and sustainability objectives.
The workshop provided a platform for knowledge exchange, sharing of best practices and exploration of practical approaches for adapting advanced monitoring technologies to Zambia’s local conditions. Participants engaged actively, discussing opportunities to integrate CEMS and Y-DAS into the country’s environmental monitoring framework.
