AUB Marks 20 Years with General Assembly in The Gambia

The 17th General Assembly of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) will take place from 14 to 17 April 2026 in Banjul, coinciding with the Union’s 20th anniversary.

The event, themed “AUB, 20 Years Serving African Media: Heritage, Innovation and Transformation”, will provide a strategic platform to reflect on the evolution and future of broadcasting across the continent.

The high-level gathering will bring together media executives, government officials, broadcast industry representatives, sports confederations, academics, content creators, and partners from across Africa and beyond.

Participants will discuss critical issues shaping African media, including the rising cost of sports broadcasting rights, sustainable funding models for media outlets, and the adoption of innovative technologies to transform the sector.

AUB Director General, Grégoire Ndjaka, said: “As African broadcasters navigate a rapidly changing media landscape, this General Assembly offers a unique opportunity to celebrate our heritage, stimulate innovation, and drive the institutional transformations necessary for the 21st century.”

The event will culminate with the AUB Media Awards Gala, a continental celebration recognising the creativity and excellence of audiovisual professionals. The gala will also serve as a key fundraising initiative for the AUB Foundation Against Cancer (AFAC), which uses media to raise awareness and support cancer-fighting initiatives.

Founded 20 years ago, the African Union of Broadcasting is Africa’s largest broadcasting organisation, uniting 85 public and private television and radio broadcasters.

Through platforms such as AUBVision and its digital networks, the Union continues to promote authentic African content while fostering development across all segments of the media industry.
