Zambian Students Take Up Regional Tourism Scholarships in Kenya

The Zambia High Commission in the Republic of Kenya has welcomed Zambian students currently pursuing studies at Utalii College under the Tourism and Hospitality Scholarship Programme, aimed at strengthening Zambia’s skills base in the tourism sector.

Speaking during an engagement with the students, Zambia’s High Commissioner to Kenya, His Excellency Mr Alfred Musemuna, congratulated the beneficiaries on securing the highly competitive scholarships.

He said the opportunity places the students among a privileged group of young Zambians entrusted with acquiring skills critical to the country’s national development.

Mr Musemuna urged the students to remain focused, disciplined and committed to excellence throughout their training. He reminded them that they are ambassadors of Zambia and the Government, representing the country both at Utalii College and within the Republic of Kenya.

He encouraged them to uphold good conduct, respect institutional rules and demonstrate professionalism at all times.

The High Commissioner further noted that strong academic performance and positive feedback from the institution would be key in motivating continued and expanded government support for similar scholarship programmes in the future.

He reaffirmed the High Commission’s commitment to supporting the students throughout their period of study and expressed confidence that the full cohort of 20 students would soon be in place.

The students reported for their studies in September 2025 and are enrolled in various tourism and hospitality management courses. Currently, nine students are actively attending classes, while arrangements are underway for the remaining students to join in line with the original programme design.

The Tourism and Hospitality Scholarship Programme is an initiative of the Zambia High Commission in Nairobi, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Tourism of Zambia and the Ministry of Tourism of Kenya. The programme is expected to contribute significantly to the growth and competitiveness of Zambia’s tourism industry upon completion of the students’ training.
