Tanzania Dominates 2025 World Travel Awards, Beating Top Global Destinations

Tanzania has achieved an unprecedented victory at the 2025 World Travel Awards, surpassing established tourism destinations including the United States, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, and South Africa. The win highlights Tanzania’s growing global appeal, sustainable tourism initiatives, and significant investment in tourism infrastructure.

At the World Travel Awards Grand Finals 2025, held on 6 December in Bahrain, Tanzania claimed multiple accolades, cementing its reputation as a premier destination for nature-based and cultural tourism.

Serengeti National Park was named World’s Leading National Park for 2025, placing it ahead of globally renowned sites such as South Africa’s Kruger National Park and the United States’ Yellowstone National Park. The park is celebrated for its vast savannahs, rich biodiversity, and the annual wildebeest migration, attracting millions of visitors worldwide.

In addition, Tanzania was recognised at the Africa and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony in June 2025 as Africa’s Leading Destination, reflecting the country’s overall tourism growth and diversification.

Zanzibar further enhanced the nation’s profile, earning the title of Africa’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination for 2025, showcasing Tanzania’s expanding appeal in business tourism alongside its established leisure offerings.

Tourism continues to play a vital role in Tanzania’s economy. According to the Bank of Tanzania, international visitor arrivals grew by 9.02% in 2025, reaching 2.09 million, while tourism revenue soared to a record US$4.2 billion.

This growth highlights both global demand for Tanzania’s unique natural and cultural experiences and the impact of strategic marketing and infrastructure investments, including airport upgrades and improved road access to key destinations.

Beyond numbers, Tanzania’s success reflects a commitment to sustainable tourism practices and community engagement, ensuring benefits reach local communities and support conservation efforts. The combination of world-class national parks, cultural experiences, pristine beaches, and luxury travel options positions Tanzania as a multi-dimensional destination for global travellers.

With the international recognition gained at the 2025 World Travel Awards, Tanzania is poised to further solidify its position as a leading tourism hub in Africa and beyond, continuing to attract visitors with its natural wonders, cultural heritage, and expanding hospitality sector.
