Tourism Minister Urges Investment to Boost Kasempa’s Growing Tourism Sector
Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, has called for increased investment in commercial infrastructure to accelerate tourism growth in Kasempa District, as he officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the area’s first shopping mall.
He highlighted Kasempa’s strong cultural appeal, driven by traditional ceremonies such as Nsakwa Yaba Kaonde and Lwendela, which attract visitors from across Zambia and beyond.
He noted that modern retail facilities enhance traveller convenience and contribute significantly to the overall tourism experience by improving safety, accessibility, and service provision.
Hon Sikumba urged private investors, traditional leaders and government agencies to work together to unlock Kasempa’s full tourism potential.
Guest of Honour and Minister of Trade, Commerce and Industry, Chipoka Mulenga, said the new mall would ease the burden on families who currently travel long distances, including to Lusaka, for essential goods.
He added that government efforts to license youths formerly involved in illegal mining as small-scale miners were helping create a safer environment for tourism and investment.
Kasempa’s tourism offering includes the West Lunga National Park, the Lufupa and Lunga river systems, and celebrated Kaonde cultural sites and ceremonies. Infrastructure development, officials say, will be key to positioning the district as a leading cultural and eco-tourism destination.
