J&J Construction Faces 36-Month Ban for Fraud in Malawi
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced the 36-month debarment of J&J Construction Company following findings of fraudulent practices during a Bank-financed project in Malawi.
The company is also required to make restitution to the Government of Malawi.
An investigation by the AfDB’s Office of Integrity and Anti-Corruption revealed that J&J Construction, a building contractor registered in Malawi, submitted forged payment guarantees and performance bonds.
These actions misled Malawi’s Ministry of Industry and Trade to release advance payments under the Competitiveness and Job Creation Project, which aims to improve private sector capabilities, boost export diversification, and create jobs.
During the debarment period, J&J Construction and its affiliates are barred from participating in any AfDB-financed activities.
After the debarment expires, the company may only resume participation upon providing proof of full restitution to the Malawi government and completion of an integrity compliance programme meeting AfDB standards.
