Justice Musaluke Elected to United Nations Dispute Tribunal

Justice Martin Musaluke of Zambia’s Constitutional Court has been elected as a judge of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT), following a vote held at the UN General Assembly on 17 November 2025.

Justice Musaluke, an accomplished jurist with more than three decades of experience in constitutional, administrative, and employment law, secured 119 out of 189 votes, placing him among the highest-scoring candidates.

Bulgaria’s candidate also received 119 votes, while Albania obtained 96. Other successful candidates included Greece with 102 votes and Burkina Faso with 94.

The newly elected judges will serve non-renewable seven-year terms beginning in July 2026, contributing to the UN’s internal justice system, which oversees employment-related disputes within the Organisation.

Justice Musaluke has pledged to bring an approach grounded in African juristic principles, emphasising restorative justice, human dignity, and fairness.

He expressed his intention to uphold due process while reinforcing trust in the UN’s internal justice mechanisms.

Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr Chola Milambo, welcomed the election as a significant milestone for the country.

He said the outcome underscores Zambia’s longstanding commitment to international justice and the rule of law.
