First Quantum Supplier Builds Computer Lab for Kimale Primary School

First Quantum Minerals has commended long-time supplier AMSI Zambia for championing supplier-led community development through the construction and handover of a modern computer laboratory at Kimale Primary School in Solwezi.

The new facility, unveiled during an official ceremony, has been widely praised by local leaders, including Solwezi Mayor His Worship Remmy Kalepa, who described the project as a major step forward for the district’s technological growth.

“You didn’t just build a room – you built a gateway to the 21st century,” said Mayor Kalepa. “Computer skills are no longer a luxury; they are a necessity that unlocks opportunities for education, employment, and innovation.”

AMSI Zambia Director of Finance and Administration, Jacob Zimba, said the company’s continued support to the school stems from its belief that education is the foundation of long-term development. He added that AMSI remains committed to ensuring young people have access to modern and relevant learning infrastructure.

The company has been a consistent partner to Kimale Primary School, having previously donated 100 pockets of cement and carried out classroom renovations, including flooring, painting, and installing new window panes.

To support and enhance AMSI’s initiative, Kansanshi Mining PLC, a subsidiary of First Quantum, donated an additional 10 computers, bringing its total contribution to 15 computers for the school. The donation aims to expand digital access for pupils and better prepare them for a rapidly advancing technological world.

Kansanshi Foundation Manager, Simon Keevil, applauded AMSI Zambia for demonstrating the transformative potential of strong supplier partnerships. “AMSI has shown what true partnership looks like — going beyond commerce to touch lives and uplift communities,” said Mr Keevil. “We encourage all our suppliers to follow this example. Corporate social responsibility is not the burden of one institution; it is a shared effort.”

He emphasised that with the mining sector in North-Western Province continuing to grow, suppliers have an increasingly important role to play in promoting sustainable socio-economic development. “When suppliers invest in the communities where they operate, the impact is deeper, more sustainable, and more widely shared,” he added.

AMSI’s ongoing contributions across education, community welfare, and support to vulnerable groups have strengthened a shared vision of building a thriving, inclusive, and empowered North-Western Province.

First Quantum reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing a culture of shared responsibility within its supply chain, stressing that sustainable development is strongest when industry players, suppliers, communities, and local authorities work together.
