Zambia Wins Bid to Host RightsCon 2026
Zambia has won the bid to host RightsCon 2026, the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age. The event is set to take place from 5th to 8th May 2026 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
Minister of Tourism, Hon. Rodney Sikumba, announced the development during the official RightsCon bid handover presentation held at his office, noting that Zambia’s peace, security, and stability have positioned the country as a preferred global destination for major international gatherings.
“The conducive environment that Zambia has created made us stand out in a highly competitive bidding process. Our country has become a safe haven — an essential factor in attracting tourists and hosting large international events,” said Hon. Sikumba.
He further highlighted that the government’s commitment to upholding individual rights and promoting a digital economy has strengthened Zambia’s global reputation.
“I am reliably informed that the 2026 edition of RightsCon is expected to attract over 5,000 delegates from more than 150 countries, with around 3,000 attending in person,” he disclosed.
Hon. Sikumba also noted that tourist arrivals have significantly increased since the government came into office in 2021. “At that time, 56 countries were visa-exempt. Today, that number has risen to around 170,” he said, adding that government investments in tourism infrastructure are improving access to destinations across the country.
Speaking earlier, RightsCon Director Nikki Gladstone said Zambia was selected from 11 bidding countries due to its efficient visa and travel systems, peace and stability, and capacity to host large international events.
