200 Teachers Trained in Digital Teaching Methodologies

The Ministry of Education has successfully concluded a four-day national training programme on blended learning methodologies, equipping 200 teachers from all ten provinces with the skills needed to transform classroom instruction through technology.

Held from 30 September to 3 October 2025, the training was conducted in partnership with UNICEF and Airtel Zambia. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda in education.

Assistant Director of Educational Broadcasting Services (EBS), Professor Brendah Musanya (PhD), described the training as a major step towards addressing Zambia’s learning crisis and improving learner outcomes through technology-enabled teaching.

“This initiative is a direct response to the government’s commitment to inclusive digital learning,” she said. “By empowering teachers with blended learning skills, we are enhancing learner performance and ensuring that even remote schools have access to quality digital resources.”

As part of the programme, 200 schools received routers with 80GB monthly data packages to expand internet access and integrate digital tools into daily teaching. Professor Musanya noted that this builds on earlier collaborations between Airtel Zambia and UNICEF, which have already connected over 100 schools to the internet.

She added that Airtel Zambia’s continued investment in educational connectivity, including the expansion of telecom towers across the country, demonstrates the impact of public-private partnerships in driving sustainable development.

To sustain the momentum, the Ministry has established WhatsApp support groups and monthly reporting systems to promote ongoing teacher engagement and progress tracking.
