FQM Trident Builds a Legacy of Wellness, Inclusion and Pride at Kalumbila Challenge 2025

FQM Trident Limited, a subsidiary of First Quantum Minerals (FQM), has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting health, wellness, and community unity through the successful hosting of the Kalumbila Challenge 2025.

The landmark event, held on 4th October at the Sentinel School grounds in Kalumbila District, drew over 3,000 participants and attendees from across Zambia. It has quickly grown into one of the region’s premier sporting and community engagement occasions.

Kalumbila Town Council Chairman, Mr. Shadrick Munjunga, highlighted the event’s importance, saying: “The Kalumbila Challenge is an opportunity for us to come together, celebrate achievements, push boundaries, and foster connections that drive progress.”

The Challenge reflects FQM Trident’s people-first philosophy, which prioritises the holistic well-being of employees and the broader community. For First Quantum Minerals, the belief that mining must benefit people first is more than a slogan—it is a guiding principle demonstrated through initiatives like the Kalumbila Challenge, which encourage physical fitness, mental wellness, and social cohesion.

“Whether you are a participant competing with passion, a supporter cheering with enthusiasm, or a partner contributing to the success of this event, you are integral to making the Kalumbila Challenge a memorable and impactful experience,” Mr. Munjunga added.

This year’s edition placed a strong emphasis on inclusivity, introducing a special category for persons with disabilities and encouraging participation from senior citizens, families, and individuals from diverse backgrounds. The event highlighted FQM Trident’s belief that everyone, regardless of age or ability, deserves the opportunity to participate, belong, and be celebrated.

Proceeds from the Challenge will go towards enhancing the Wumi Mini Hospital, a healthcare facility constructed by First Quantum Minerals and handed over to the government earlier this year. The funds will help improve access to essential healthcare services in the region, furthering the company’s commitment to sustainable development and community well-being.

FQM Trident’s Assistant General Manager, Mr. Frederic Wouters, praised the teamwork and collaboration that made the event possible: “The Kalumbila Challenge perfectly aligns with our philosophy of putting people at the centre of everything we do. It demonstrates how prioritising people creates opportunities for growth, resilience, and pride. I would like to thank every individual and organisation that made today possible.”

Supported by 35 partner sponsors, as well as local leaders, organisers, volunteers, and medical teams, the 2025 Kalumbila Challenge was hailed as a resounding success.

Beyond medals and trophies, the event has become a symbol of unity, resilience, and community pride—showcasing how sport can bring people together in meaningful ways.

FQM Trident congratulated all participants and winners, affirming that “you are all champions”, and expressed anticipation for an even greater celebration of wellness, inclusivity, and togetherness at the Kalumbila Challenge 2026.
