Zambia Reaffirms Commitment to Multilateralism and Stronger Africa–Nordic Partnerships
The Republic of Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism and pledged to strengthen its partnerships with the Nordic countries in addressing global peace, security, and development challenges.
This reaffirmation was made during Zambia’s participation at the 22nd Africa–Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held from 2nd to 3rd October 2025 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, under the theme “Leveraging Technology and Collaboration for Future-Ready Societies.”
Representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, S.C., MP, Zambia’s Ambassador to Sweden, Ambassador Gladys Neven Lundwe, led the Zambian delegation and delivered a statement during the plenary session on strengthening multilateralism in promoting global peace and security.
Ambassador Lundwe observed that the global peace and security landscape continues to face immense challenges posed by prolonged conflicts, transnational threats, and the escalating impacts of climate change.
She highlighted that these complex issues require renewed global solidarity and a strong commitment to multilateralism, guided by the principles of the United Nations Charter and strengthened through regional and inter-regional cooperation.
She further highlighted the importance of translating dialogue into concrete actions, noting that only through collective efforts can nations build a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous world.
The Ambassador commended the Nordic countries for their longstanding support to African-led peace and development initiatives, particularly those under the auspices of the African Union and ECOWAS.
Ambassador Lundwe called for continued Nordic support in mediation, peacekeeping, and inclusive political transitions, especially in countries affected by conflict. She emphasised the need for sustained technical and financial backing to peace efforts as a foundation for lasting stability.
Additionally, she acknowledged the principled role of the Nordic countries in advancing peace, fostering dialogue, and upholding international law amid growing global uncertainties.
The Africa–Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting brought together ministers and senior officials from African and Nordic nations — including Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Norway — to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, technology, and multilateral diplomacy.
